My recently concluded official visit to Nanning, China, has proven to be both highly productive and profoundly insightful, marking a significant milestone in international cooperation for the city of Banjul.
The visit commenced with a strategic engagement at the Guangxi MESDA Group, a global leader in heavy-duty industrial machinery and a benefactor to our city.
The tour of their advanced facilities provided a powerful demonstration of modern industrial excellence, characterized by precision engineering and a remarkable culture of teamwork and innovation.
A particularly inspiring initiative was their sustainable practice of repurposing metal barrels into furniture.
Our constructive dialogue has successfully established a framework for unprecedented collaboration, opening concrete pathways for partnership that will greatly benefit Banjul’s development.
Further deepening the scope of our cooperation, a visit to the award-winning Guangxi Sub-tropical Crop Research Institute highlighted the transformative power of agricultural research and development.
The Institute’s seven-decade legacy of providing sustainable crop varieties aligns perfectly with our urban and rural farming initiatives and offers the resilience necessary for agricultural success in The Gambia. As a direct outcome, my delegation has secured an agreement to immediately resume and coordinate collaborative development efforts.
This partnership will be channeled through REFELA The Gambia and the Banjul City Council to benefit a wide range of local organizations.
This historic success is a testament to collective effort. I extend my profound gratitude to my dedicated delegation for their resilience throughout an intensive schedule.
I also wish to acknowledge the invaluable guidance of H.E. Liu Jin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to The Gambia, and the exceptional coordination and hospitality of my counterpart, Mayor Hou Gang of Nanning.
Their support was instrumental in facilitating multi-sectoral agreements spanning eight institutions across Nanning.
This journey has powerfully reinforced the purpose of our work. The agreements forged this week represent a monumental step toward realizing our long-term vision for Banjul.
In the coming months, my office, through the Banjul City Council and REFELA The Gambia, will unveil specific projects designed to fast-track our transformation into a model capital city and a source of national pride.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Nanning for its incredible hospitality and look forward to welcoming our Chinese partners to Banjul in the near future.
