The Banjul City Council today proudly hosted the Regional Engagement Meeting on the Development of the 7th National Report and the Updating of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), organized by the Department of Parks and Wildlife Management in collaboration with national stakeholders.
On behalf of the Lord Mayoress, the Deputy Mayor of Banjul, Hon. Abdou Aziz Dabakh Gaye, delivered the welcoming and opening statements. In his remarks, he emphasized that the preparation of the 7th National Report and the update of the NBSAP are not mere formalities, but commitments to safeguarding The Gambiaโs natural heritage, protecting livelihoods, and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come. He reminded participants that biodiversity protection is a shared responsibility that requires strong partnerships, bold solutions, and active youth engagement.
Present at the meeting were the Chief Executive Officer of Council, Councillors, senior management, and key partners including the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), Community Development, The Gambia Red Cross Society, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Banjul Youth Committee, and youth climate change groups, among others.
The engagement served as a platform for reflection, knowledge-sharing, and the strengthening of strategies to build resilience and promote sustainable development in Banjul and across The Gambia.
The Council remains committed to supporting initiatives that bring together government, civil society, and young people to protect our environment and build a stronger, more resilient future.
