This past weekend, a group of passionate young leaders took bold and selfless action to restore one of Tan Bi’s most notorious illegal dumping sites.
Their mission wasn’t driven by praise—but by an unshakable love for Banjul and a shared vision for a healthier, more sustainable city.
The Banjul City Council has been proud to stand with them from the very beginning, offering unwavering support, resources, and encouragement to ensure their success.
The site, located in Tobacco Road and surrounding areas, had become more than just an eyesore—it was a threat to public health, the environment, and our collective well-being. But this inspiring team—led by our very own Alieu Badara Njie (AB), Kebba Bojang, and Malick Joof (Fish)—did more than removing waste.
Together with the Council, they’re now educating the community on the dangers of illegal dumping, promoting responsible waste disposal, and empowering residents to report violations early.
This is so very important because a clean environment isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about safeguarding our health, protecting our ecosystems, and preserving Banjul for future generations.
Every piece of trash improperly disposed of harms our land, water, and air. But when we take ownership, as these young leaders have, we create lasting change.
Their efforts go beyond commendable—they’re a blueprint for community-led transformation. Let’s follow their example.
Together, we can build a Banjul that’s not only cleaner but greener and more resilient.
To the incredible team and every resident who joined this effort: Thank you. You’re proving that the future of our city is in caring hands.
