On behalf of Her Worship Lord Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe, the Deputy Mayor of Banjul, Abdou Aziz Dabakh Gaye, received and accompanied dignitaries as the city was honored by the presence of the Honourable Deputy Speaker, Seedy S.K. Njie, and the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Y. Badjie, alongside other distinguished guests who graced the New Year cultural activities.
Their cultural engagements commenced at Arch 22 with an electrifying performance by the Ekun Baba Hunting Society, before proceeding to Independence Drive for the display by the Gunshot Hunting Society. The evening concluded at Fitzgerald Street with a powerful and historic performance by the Odilleh Hunting Society, proudly celebrating 60 years of cultural heritage and tradition.
The night also featured iconic traditional expressions, including the Kankurang and Zimba masquerades, among many other cultural performances that reflect the depth, discipline, and identity of Gambian culture.
Banjul continues to stand as a proud home of authentic cultural expression welcoming communities from near and far where tradition, unity, and shared humanity are preserved and celebrated.
