The Banjul City Council successfully carried out its third general cleansing exercise, building on the momentum of the previous two and reinforcing our steadfast commitment to a clean, healthy, and dignified city. The exercise took place yesterday, 8th November 2025, and today, 9th November 2025, covering numerous streets across Banjul.
A total of 100 youth volunteers participated, 50 each day, working tirelessly to collect household garbage and restore order to our streets. All volunteers were duly compensated for their service, reflecting the Councilโs appreciation for their dedication and hard work.
The streets covered included: Lancaster, Perseverance, Blanc, Dobson, William, Horse Street, Charles Street, Hill Street, Anglesea, Denton, Kent Street, Picton, Police Lines, Haddington, Thomas, Box Bar, Jamesenegal, Wellesley, Thompson, Spalding, Spalding Curve, Imam Omar Sowe, London Corner, Talli Dawda, Pille Street, Mantel, Ingram, Hopkinson, Clarkson, and Long Street, among others.
The Deputy Mayor, Hon. Abdou Aziz Dabakh Gaye, Hon. Senior Councillor Tunko Jammeh, Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Senior Councillor. Pa Mamud Ceesay, Hon. Cllr. Alagi Sarr, Hon. Cllr. Sheikh Jaw, Hon. Cllr. Ebou Sarr, Hon. Cllr. Abdoulie Amar Gaye and other honorable members of Council worked in one spirit alongside the teams, demonstrating hands-on leadership and a shared commitment to public service.
This exercise highlights the Councilโs consistency, determination, and collective action. With each cleansing exercise, we strengthen community responsibility, civic pride, and environmental stewardship. These exercises will continue monthly, fully coordinated through Ward Councillors and under the leadership of the Environmental, Sanitation, Health, and Mbalit Committee.
Through the dedication of our youth, councillors, and staff, the Banjul City Council continues to lead with action, transforming our city street by street into a place of dignity, health, and pride for all residents.
