Banjul City Council Update

Today at the Banjul City Council, the Deputy Mayor, Hon. Abdou Aziz Dabakh Gaye, received Ms. Fien Hoornaert, Mr. Brams Kiona, and Mr. Lars Bailleu from ZoWe Verpleegkunde School of Nursing in Belgium, on behalf of Her Worship the Lord Mayoress Ajaratou Rohey Malick Lowe, the Council, and the people of Banjul.
The students will spend two months undertaking an internship at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital within the framework of the historic Banjul–Ostend City Link. Their teachers are expected to visit in three weeks to monitor and evaluate their work.
They were accompanied by our City Link Coordinator, Mr. Ousman Jobe, whose tireless efforts continue to strengthen this long-standing partnership. As part of Banjul’s tradition of hospitality, the students were also given Gambian names — Rohey, Aziz, and Mariama — as a symbolic sign of belonging and connection to our city.
The Banjul–Ostend City Link is not just a partnership in name, but a living exchange where both sides benefit from skills, knowledge, and culture to opportunities that uplift our people. Through this link, students, institutions, and communities on both ends gain, and the legacy of cooperation continues to grow stronger.
This partnership remains vibrant and impactful, a reminder that when cities come together, communities thrive.
