As part of our ongoing program in the Peopleโs Republic of China, the Gambian delegation of Council leaders including the Deputy Mayor of Banjul, Hon. Abdou Aziz Dabakh Gaye continued its study visits with a tour of the Artemisinin Exhibition: The Key to a Community of Shared Future Between China and Africa.
Just as our earlier sessions in Shanghai revealed how bold planning can transform cities, this visit reminded us of another essential truth: that the health of our people is the foundation upon which all progress must rest.
Artemisinin is not only a scientific triumph, it is a lifeline. It has saved millions by transforming the fight against malaria, a disease that still affects countless families across Africa, including The Gambia. The exhibition guided the delegation through its origins, global impact, and future promise. It was a delight to also see photographs of Gambian leaders, including Members of Parliament, who visited in 2023, proof of our nationโs continuing engagement in this global health story.
For The Gambia, malaria is more than a medical challenge. It is an obstacle to productivity, education, and sustainable community growth. This exhibition underscored the same principle that drives our councils: progress is not by chance but by deliberate action, collaboration, and vision.
Together with colleagues from councils across the country, the Deputy Mayor reaffirmed that building healthier, stronger communities requires us to embrace both innovation and global partnerships.
